When it comes to something you're putting into your body, trust matters.
We don't believe trust is something you can claim. We believe it's something you earn.
When we first learned about kava, our reaction wasn't excitement. It was skepticism.
Like many people, we had never heard of it before. So we did what most consumers do when they're introduced to an unfamiliar ingredient—we Googled it.
The first page of search results raised more questions than answers.
As people who care deeply about what we put into our bodies, we weren't willing to take a chance on something we didn't understand. We read ingredient labels. We research ingredients before trying them. We question bold claims instead of taking them at face value.
So we kept digging.
The more we researched, the more we realized the story surrounding kava was far more nuanced than a few headlines suggested. We learned about its thousands of years of traditional use throughout the South Pacific. We studied the available research. We looked into why kava developed a controversial reputation in the early 2000s and found that many of the concerns centered around products made with the wrong parts of the plant, poor-quality raw materials, or extraction methods that differed from traditional noble root preparations.
Eventually, we felt comfortable enough to try it ourselves.
That experience shaped how we built Kava Haven.
Long before we ever sold our first bottle, we realized that consumers deserve more than marketing—they deserve answers. We wanted to know where our ingredients came from, how they were processed, why certain manufacturing decisions were made, and what the research actually said. If we were asking those questions ourselves, we knew future customers would ask them too.
That philosophy continues to guide every decision we make today.
Not all kava is the same. We use noble kava, the variety that has been traditionally consumed throughout the South Pacific for centuries. The source of an ingredient matters just as much as the ingredient itself, which is why we care deeply about where our kava is grown, how it's harvested, and how it's processed before it ever reaches our facility. We also use only the root of the plant—the part that has traditionally been used to prepare kava beverages for generations. That distinction matters because many of the historical concerns surrounding kava involved products made with non-traditional plant parts or manufacturing methods that differed from traditional noble root preparations. Understanding those differences was one of the biggest reasons our perspective changed as we continued researching.
The same philosophy influences how we produce Kava Haven. After evaluating different extraction methods, we chose supercritical CO₂ extraction because it produces a highly consistent extract without relying on harsh chemical solvents. Consistency matters—not only for quality, but for creating the same experience bottle after bottle.
Every production batch is also tested before it reaches consumers. Depending on the production run, this includes testing for identity, potency, heavy metals, microbiological contaminants, and other quality standards. To us, quality shouldn't be something a company asks consumers to assume. It should be something that's verified.
That same commitment extends to our ingredient label. If we choose an ingredient, there should be a reason it's there. If you have a question about what's in your bottle, you should be able to find an answer. Transparency shouldn't stop at the front label—it should extend to how a product is sourced, made, and explained.
It also means talking openly about kava safety. One of the easiest things a company can do is avoid difficult questions. We'd rather answer them.
Kava has been studied extensively, and like many botanical ingredients, the scientific literature is nuanced. We encourage anyone considering kava to look beyond headlines, read the available research, and understand the differences between traditional noble root kava and the products that contributed to many of the historical concerns.
We also believe in being clear about who should not consume our product. Kava Haven is intended for adults and is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding or for anyone with questions about potential interactions with medications without first speaking with their healthcare provider. Transparency also means acknowledging that no ingredient is right for everyone.
One of our favorite parts of building Kava Haven has been hearing from curious customers. Sometimes people ask where our kava comes from. Sometimes they ask why their mouth tingles after the first sip. Sometimes they ask about the research. Sometimes they challenge us.
We genuinely appreciate those conversations because they're the same questions we asked ourselves before we ever started this company.
We're not asking anyone to blindly trust Kava Haven.
Ask questions.
Read the research.
Understand what's in your bottle. Know where it came from.
Because consumers deserve more than marketing.
They deserve transparency.
And that's the standard we'll continue holding ourselves to.
